About
Processus – A Story of Identity, Art, and Place

Processus is a 100% women-owned winery dedicated to honoring South Africa’s forgotten grape varieties through organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking. Their Fernão Pires, sourced from nearly 40-year-old vines, highlights a grape deeply tied to Portuguese influence in the region. Often overlooked or blended away, Processus gives this variety the platform it deserves, allowing it to shine as a single expression.

Founded in 2020 by curator Beata America and winemaker Megan van der Merwe, Processus is more than just a wine label—it’s a philosophy of intentionality, sustainability, and artistic expression. The name itself means “process,” reflecting their belief in wine as both an evolving journey and a medium for storytelling.

Beata, also a curator at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, approaches wine as an artistic object, exploring its intersection with contemporary art. Megan, a rising star in South African winemaking with experience in both hemispheres, brings a scientific yet deeply expressive approach to her craft. Together, they create wines that encapsulate the land, people, and culture of South Africa.

Social Justice and Environmental Restoration Statement

Culture Wine Co. was founded to share the exciting changes taking place in the South African wine industry- largely spearheaded by a young generation of winemakers focused on clean natural wines as well as organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming methods. They are producing vibrant, energetic Pinotage; a welcome change from the bombastic, high alcohol styles of the past. They’re crafting single-varietal wines from lesser-known grapes like Fernao Pires, Colombar, and Palomino; which would have traditionally been lost in bulk co-op blends.

The current South African wine scene is innovative and energized, but what sets it apart from others is its collective dedication to fostering an open, inclusive wine culture. It is inspiring to witness the camaraderie, the willingness to share knowledge, and the support this community gives.
